Wow, that was a ride and a half. Some parts nailed, some not so much, some characters felt a little false, others rang true. Worth the wait, though.
Love the Reavers explanation. Whedon's still a bastard. Wish we would have found out more about Book. There was much discussion afterwards on whether the big battle at the end was the opportunity to cull *actors* who couldn't or wouldn't sign on for a sequel movie or series. Any one of them could have died, it just happened to be Wash... although it could have been a little more, y'know... heroic. Although I'm sure that would have just come across as melodramatic and staged, sooooo... *shrug* The randomness of life is one of the overall themes of the series and movie, so I guess it fits.

Date: 2005-10-01 03:25 pm (UTC)I have to admit, I wasn't disappointed by the face-fall when the reavers came out of the cloud cover . . . even as much as I was anticipating it, it was *still* worth it :).
And I want a 90# can of Whoop-Ass!

Date: 2005-10-01 03:55 pm (UTC)How is indeed the big question.
I spent the hour after I first saw it saying, over and over, "I can't believe he killed Wash! Joss, you bastard!"

Date: 2005-10-01 05:43 pm (UTC)I'd actually been spoiled about Wash's death, because I chose to read an interview with Alan Tudyk that warned of spoilers (I've never minded much. I knew how LotR went, I know the Chronicles of Narnia and will still see that movie, so...) Anyway, Alan said that he had always figured Wash for a 2 season character at most, and he was really pleased with the way they killed him off.
It's not "Buffy", but people in the Jossverse have a hard time staying dead. Or at least out of the story even if they are dead.
