Jul. 11th, 2007 10:41 amThis isn't coffee, this is coffee concentrate. Same amount of grounds and water as when I make a hot french press full, but holy crap. I looked at the lack of opacity in the resulting liquid, and thought "Lame. This looks really weak." Ha! I enjoy chewing/sucking on coffee beans directly, but I might have to dilute this a tad. Yikes.
Goes well with a squirt of simple syrup however. :)
Edit: When you pour the water over the grounds, cover them airtight. Air during the brew process leads to bitterness. I use the french press still, and just put Saran Wrap over the carafe. Pop it in the fridge at night, press it in the morning, enjoy chilled smooth brew.

Date: 2007-07-11 03:24 pm (UTC)The actual recipe calls for significantly more bean (1/5 lb of bean to 2c water), but it then goes on to say that to serve it properly, it needs to be cut about 1:4 with milk, so you end up more with a coffee-flavored iced milk.
This, however, will do me just fine.

Date: 2007-07-11 07:52 pm (UTC)I french press my coffee (but w/boiling water) in the a.m., pour off one cup for me and leave the pot out. Run some errands and then when i get back pour the remainder into a coffee cup and place it into the fridge for awhile. Then, when I'm feeling wilty, I go to the fridge, grab the cup and add some heavy cream (yes, my middle shows it) and Voila! cold pressed coffee. Or something. The only thing is that air is the enemy of good coffee so I usually put it into a togo cup w/a lid b4 refrigerating it. Imperfectly perfect.

Date: 2007-07-11 10:07 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, I forgot that bit in the write-up: cover it airtight while it's brewing. Will edit.
