Just because the Zune sucks doesn't mean the ipod is good. :p (the zune does suck, IMHO) And I don't think anyone has ever claimed it would be an ipod killer except maybe MS, and if they did they're idiots.
Also I'm sure they were prompted, CNN types aren't in touch enough to actually know what people wouldn't like about it. ('It's heavier!' um, do you mean it's like ten pounds or a few ounces more than a Nano? jackass)
Well, Soledad used to be a tech guru over at MSNBC, so it isn't like the talking heads were *completely* clueless about it. Their homing in on the "Oh, email?" "No..." "Download songs?" "Er, no..." "Oh, so... just..." "Right. Just share songs. Sort of." was so very targeted it was funny. Of course, those were the same questions *I* thought of when I heard it had WiFi. :)
And hey, if anyone has shown that you don't have to be good to own the marketplace, it's MS. ;)
MS isn't looking to make the Zune an iPod killer...this rev.
Zune 5.0-ish, in 2012-ish, that's the timeframe they're looking at. This rev is "Look, we have an MP3 player, and an online service for it." It's good enough to prove the point, and no better.
I wonder if I can convince my boss that the Zune is covered under the Final Judgment? I'm sure I could do some pretty rigorous testing of the Zune, the iPod, and Creative's Rio--it would at least make my four hours of commuting each day into billable time...
