Whoever said "There's no such thing as bad press" hasn't seen this clip...

I'll say it - the way the talking heads homed in on the weaknesses smelled like they'd been prompted. Still valid points.

Just because the Zune sucks doesn't mean the ipod is good. :p (the zune does suck, IMHO) And I don't think anyone has ever claimed it would be an ipod killer except maybe MS, and if they did they're idiots.

Also I'm sure they were prompted, CNN types aren't in touch enough to actually know what people wouldn't like about it. ('It's heavier!' um, do you mean it's like ten pounds or a few ounces more than a Nano? jackass)

Anyway, much hate for all involved. :D

Well, Soledad used to be a tech guru over at MSNBC, so it isn't like the talking heads were *completely* clueless about it. Their homing in on the "Oh, email?" "No..." "Download songs?" "Er, no..." "Oh, so... just..." "Right. Just share songs. Sort of." was so very targeted it was funny. Of course, those were the same questions *I* thought of when I heard it had WiFi. :)

And hey, if anyone has shown that you don't have to be good to own the marketplace, it's MS. ;)

How is this different for you about most situations and topics? :)

Well it's not, but I just didn't want anyone to think I'd gone weak. ;)

MS isn't looking to make the Zune an iPod killer...this rev.

Zune 5.0-ish, in 2012-ish, that's the timeframe they're looking at. This rev is "Look, we have an MP3 player, and an online service for it." It's good enough to prove the point, and no better.

I wonder if I can convince my boss that the Zune is covered under the Final Judgment? I'm sure I could do some pretty rigorous testing of the Zune, the iPod, and Creative's Rio--it would at least make my four hours of commuting each day into billable time...

Yeah, this is classic MS. Rev 1 sucks, Rev 2 improves, Rev 3 hits a critical mass. They'll keep throwing money at it until they win.

I mean, just look at PlaysForSure!

Oops.

Granted, I've been inside for the last couple months of this development, but I';ve heard all these points already (discussion boards, etc.). I suspect this Sorkin guy scanned what Teh Intarweb had to say about it, as well as coming to his own conclusions.

Oh sure - these are the same questions that just about *every* techhead came up with immediately. I just figured I'd stave off the "Plant!" calls that you know are going to pop up. ;)

Now if you'd said Lead Balloon, that'd tie in perfectly.

Oh, it'll sell. There are at least 80,000 people who will almost certainly buy one for themselves, plus one for the spouse, and some for Christmas presents.

Of course, they'll be getting the Company Store discount. I figure at least 50,000 will go before a non-MS employee actually picks one up.
