Geeeeeeeek with us!

Alrighty, [livejournal.com profile] ginkgo and I are going to be hosting Dr. Who nights every Tue night from now until... whenever. We have last season of the new BBC production on various optical media, and will be starting with the first episode this very Tuesday night, 1/10, at 7pm, at Chez Us. Most of you know how to get here, drop us a line if you need directions.

Since it seems that basically nobody around here is a Whovian, so come have some fun and get sucked into the largest, most complex, convoluted, and topsy-turvy time travel series you've ever run across. You think Star Trek continuity is wacky... ha. 43 years of stories here, covering television, radio, and print. Amazing stuff, and believe it or not, they now have a props and set budget.

And all the Whos in Whoville...
Man, I wish I could join you! Here's hoping IBM hires your computer geek genius ass and you move back to Seattle!

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. If IBM hired my skinny white ass, I'll be in NY, not Seattle. ;)

Go bug icebluenothing for Who stuff, he is the Font of All Whovian in my eyes.

[identity profile] speedie316.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm well aware of Six's Who Geekery. :-)
And at least NY sounds like more fun to visit...

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If we end up there, it should be fun. The lab is about an hour outside of Manhattan, with good train service. Afternoon at MOMA, anyone? :)

[identity profile] dollraves.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Excuuuuuuuse me! I bet I have more Dr. Who books then you. I started role-playing with the gawd-awful FASA Dr. Who RPG back in the '80s. My Dr. Who geek cred is intact, thankyouverramuchgawddamnit.

See you Tuesday at 7pm.

[identity profile] ginkgo.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to rope you in. :)

olde Whovians are around here- just not up to date w/new stuff

[identity profile] chang-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, i can't make it this coming Tuesday because that's my birthday and i already have other plans, but i would definitely be interested in joining you & L to watch Dr. Who on upcoming Tuesdays. i've never been to your place though & haven't seen you two in a long while...

Re: olde Whovians are around here- just not up to date w/new stuff

[identity profile] chang-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
oops, why ever did i stick an "e" on "old"? silly old me.

[identity profile] badger.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it seems that basically nobody around here is a Whovian

Ahem.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume you'll be there, then? :D

[identity profile] badger.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps.

[identity profile] badger.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Almost certainly, as of now.

[identity profile] actsofcreation.livejournal.com 2006-01-08 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
But if they have a props and set budget, where is the money for the collective BBC cocaine habit coming from these days? I always figured the special effects budget was being snorted up the nose of the Dr Who special effects guys...

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Naw, the writers. It explains much. ;)

[identity profile] jason0x21.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm not a serious Whovian, but I almost went to the only Who con that's ever been held in Raleigh.

It got cancelled.

[identity profile] badger.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
And I think we still have the tshirt from that canceled con.

[identity profile] jason0x21.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
At least you got a t-shirt. I never got anything. Even my money back.

[identity profile] saffyre-dragon.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
The rumor is that Seattle has a lot of Who fans, yet I've only seen one episode of new Who so far (and no old ones). My edumacation is lacking.

My friends need to be punished.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Go spank icebluenothing into submission.

[identity profile] saffyre-dragon.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Eep! I've seen an example of the spankings [livejournal.com profile] icebluenothing can give out...[livejournal.com profile] endorphan needed to have a moment to recuperate after just a couple from him! I couldn't compete with that...besides, I don't make a very good top. *shrug*

[identity profile] franktheavenger.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
By 'last season' do you mean 'the first season of the latest incarnation'?

The Doctor was the only good thing about the DnD movie.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, First Season of Latest Incarnation it is. Christopher Eccleston.

[identity profile] kimokeane.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
This sounds like a blatant ripoff of the long-standing Ann Arbor "Geek TV Night" which is currently going through Tom Baker while we wait for the new BG episodes!
Copycats!

Nuh. Uh.

[identity profile] ginkgo.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
You didn't just go and challenge us to a geek off, did you?

:D

Re: Nuh. Uh.

[identity profile] kimokeane.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sharks & Jets!
Sharks & Jets!

Naw, I just wanted to give you crap for not starting this tradition when I was in town!

Re: Nuh. Uh.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Would have loved to. :) Unfortunately, it wasn't until now that we were able to get ripped copies of CBC broadcasts sent down to us. ;) Heeeeeeeey... you're close to Canadia, in theory... don't you get the CBC airings?

Re: Nuh. Uh.

[identity profile] kimokeane.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
We get one CBC channel on my stolen cable, but I honestly never thought to check if the new one was playing. Our local downloader is harvesting the archives that apparently the Beeb is putting on their site for free. We're also many Dr's behind y'all. Of course, as of a month ago, you're now one Dr. ahead ;)

BTW, wouldn't mind an update on the geographical probabilities of Mr & Mrs Smith!

Re: Nuh. Uh.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, CBC has been showing the episodes (I think) a week after BBC in UK. Not much of a lag, at least. We even have the Xmas Special that just aired. :)

Geoprobupdate: No fricking clue. :)

[identity profile] cthulhim.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Urgh, I'm going to be fencing on Tuesday nights. Any chance I could borrow the various optical media at some point?

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly!

[identity profile] herithoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
This is tempting. I used to watch back in middle school but haven't seen them since. The music on the show used to scare the crap out of my younger sister for some reason. Tuesday is my big tv night so I'll let ya know later if we decide to join you.

[identity profile] ginkgo.livejournal.com 2006-01-09 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope you can make it!
