Unintended consequences

A few years ago my jawbone started to grow again, and fill out. (Delayed finish to puberty, I guess.) This shoved my previously carefully braced teeth all to heck, and a few months ago I started having jaw pain. Since my family has a history of TMJ problems, I figured I might want to have my bite fixed before I ended up having to have all the teeth in my head ground down to nubs and rebuilt, like my Mom did.

So today I had the first set of these slapped in there. Neat concept, and I know a couple of folks who have successfully used them, so what the heck.

I'll wear them except when eating, as they seriously blunt all cutting edges while they're in.

Which means I might... MIGHT... finally stop biting my nails.

Cool! Let us know how those work for you; I'd like to try them too.

So far so good. My teeth are aching a bit, but that's to be expected. A mild headache last night, but some naproxen took care of that.

I slept last night with my jaw *relaxed* for the first time in years - no grinding. Because the splints have a slight but definite thickness, putting my teeth together results in my jaw being pushed back slightly, which hurts. So, my jaw is kept slightly slack. Odd.
