... hard at work breaking my tools, with SciFi Channel on for noise, and there's this horrendous movie on called "Darkdrive".

Concerns a VR world for criminals, where your mind is uploaded, then they off your body, exiling you there. The plot makes no sense, the acting is horrendous, and they even had the gall to rip off The Matrix. Among other things...

1) The lead wears this long black trenchcoat.

2) He is guided within the VR system by an inscrutable black guy.

3) Instead of calling a particular # on a phone to enter/exit the VR, you jump through specific windows.

4) The name of the VR world? *The Matrix*. No joke.

Pretty ballsy... so I look it up on IMDB.

It was made three years before The Matrix.

D'oh.

Did the Wachowski brothers come up with *nothing* in that film on their own? I mean, really, it's obvious that the reason the second and third films relatively sucked compared to #1 was that Grant Morrison stopped writing _The Invisibles_, but jeez. Even the non-Morrison elements seem to have all be taken directly from other obvious sources.

Respect... plummeting... again...
