Before I left NC, I went to my local State Farm rep to switch bank accounts prior to moving. They said "Don't bother, it'll happen when you transfer the account."

One of the first things I did when we both got up here was to switch our insurance, renters and car. That was late Feb.

The NY State Farm office had a 'transmission error' with the national office, and while the renter's insurance was transferred, the car insurance was not.

Which meant that the NC SF office did an automated draft from my NC account on 3/18... except the acct was $91 shy. Bingo, overdraft, and $32 NSF charge.

The mail is so GODDAMNED FUCKING SLOW up here that I didn't get a notice about it until *March 31st*. This was the first notice I had that *anything* was wrong with the car insurance. I frantically called the NC and NY offices, and they confirmed that yup, no transfer, and that the old account was still listed as the proper one. I called the bank, told them what happened, and they said that the only way to remove the NSF charge was to declare it a fraudulent or erroneous charge. I asked them if I needed to send them a check, or if it would all be taken care of. I *specifically* asked this. I was told that no, it would all be taken care of, no check needed. (You can see where this is going.)

I sent a check for the full amount to State Farm in NC (Allan Gray, Chapel Hill, if anyone wants to send him a nasty-gram), and spoke with their office, and I was *ASSURED* that it would 'all be taken care of', that the charge would be reversed, etc, etc.

Yesterday I called State Farm NC to check that things had actually gone as planned this time. Voice mail. Never got a call back. Dropped by the NY branch, and confirmed that it was going okay, so I didn't think to call NC back again.

Today I got a letter from my bank. A Final Notice for overdraft funds, and that they are going to close the account, and send me to collections if it isn't paid immediately.

It is dated *April 5th*.

What the fuck is wrong with the goddamned post office up here??

So a call to the bank, and they say that State Farm has *NOT* reversed the charge, (but they *DID* deposit the check I sent them from the new account - a *week* ago). So now they're double-paid for an account that they're losing. To top it off, the person I spoke to last time didn't know what the hell they were talking about, and the bank can't/won't do squat about the funds unless State Farm initiates a credit.

So now I'm sending the bank a check from my new bank account to cover the overdraft, which wasn't even my fucking problem in the first place. Then I get to fight with State Farm NC tomorrow to see when the fuck they are going to credit my bank account so I can finally, utterly, close the goddamned thing.

I did every fucking step right, I asked all the right questions, and I *STILL* get boned up the ass because other people can't get their goddamned acts together.

Edit: Talked to State Farm National, and they're coming at Gray's office from that end too.
