In fact, I got a personal apology from UNC, over the phone (not a form letter), and should be hearing back from the head of his department *and* the President of the UNC Physicians Association soon about his behaviour. Let's just say some people weren't happy to hear about it.

That's pretty amazing, it seems pretty rare to have anything done about screw-ups.

Maybe it had to do with the fact that I pointed them to their own web page regarding patient's rights, made reference to NC and federal legislation regarding HIPAA, and generally was ready with names, dates, and other such details, then made sure copies went to UNC-PA, his dept, and the hospital legal counsel for patient's rights and advocacy.

CCing Blue Cross Blue Shield to alert them to a questionable charge probably didn't hurt.
