Well, this one was much easier. Turns out they did have to go in surgically, but it's not bad at all. Almost no pain at *all*, and my range of motion is *SO* much better, even with the latent soreness.

I've got another ice chiller, but this one doesn't have a pump, so it is much quieter, and untethered, hallelujah. Definitely a keeper piece of equipment.

No brace, came home in a paper sling, can already do yoga poses I couldn't do yesterday. :)

As for pain... almost nothing. Why? An infusion drip of mercaine directly into the surgical site via a thin catheter, by a dirt simple little *spring driven* pump called a Pain Care. It's a honking big thingamajig, compared to the insulin pumps I have more experience with... about 2.5x4x7 inches.

So between the direct mercaine into the tissues (*NOT* the nerves!), and the percoset (which I'm not even sure I need right now), I barely even have a throbbing. Very very cool.

The anesthesiologist was *very* nice today, and agreed that my electing to forego the nerve block was not only acceptable, but reasonable, and the right decision in her mind. We discussed the redhead propensity for anesthesia 'wackiness', and I found out that another bit of it is that we wake up... unpredictably. "What, we get belligerent?" "*laugh* Sometimes. Sometimes really really talkative, sometimes hallucinating, sometimes just waking up with a start." No word on how I woke up. :)

So, home again, [livejournal.com profile] ginkgo is attending to my every need, feeling quite good, and so DAMNED happy to have something resembling normal motion again. :)

Yeah, I was rather uncomfortable when I first woke up - but not actually in *pain*, which was a nice surprise. And then it abated pretty quickly. Now I can actually stretch it and move it through a wider range than yesterday, and when I'm done it just feels like I had a solid PT session. Sore, but not hurting.

We'll see if that holds after tomorrow's *real* PT session. ;)

When the surgeon described the catheter to me, I was preparing jokes about you and Bob having shared surgical experiences. Keep clam! How's my little clamsweetie? This is not the clam tube Bob had, though, and I find my jokes inadequate.

I could not be happier with how low your pain levels are and how well foregoing the nerve block worked for you. I just hope I don't whack your shoulder in the middle of the night and, for that matter, that Bob doesn't curl up on it like she did last time. :/

You know, I really don't think that cat curling up on it would bother me right now. :)

But please don't whack the shoulder! :O

And you can make Keep Clam jokes if you can find me Ivar's clam chowder. ;)

Fantastic!

Glad to see that you're up and able so quickly. Much rejoicing among the peasantry, let me tell you!

Excellent!

I had no idea there was hope of so swift a recovery. I'm glad you bit the bullet and ditched the nerve block.
