http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/16/csection.mom/index.html

Mom refuses to get a C-section to save her unborn twins because she doesn't want a scar.

I'm really fucking torn on this - the fact that anyone would put an aesthetic like that over two children in their final couple of weeks is just sickening to me.

But I'd have a problem with a forced C-section.

But she's sputum.

But, but, but, but, but...

OTOH, I think the one thing I can definitely agree with wholeheartedly is the fact that a C-scar was NOT going to make this woman look any worse:

Oh yeah, and the surviving baby was born with alcohol and cocaine in its system.

As I understand it, she's been charged with murder, because the stillborn child WAS ALIVE when she was originally told to have the C-section, and was dead several days after she refused.

But I too, have a problem with a forced C-section.
But, but, but.
Gnar.

Fsck it, Thog's right.
AXE!

Well, my problem with C-sections is doctor's scheduling them so they don't mess up their golf game on the weekend.

And man, what kinda mother is she? anyway, is a scar going to be THAT much worse than stretch marks?

Hell, if she didn't want the scars, etc., why not just get an abortion? This is what I don't get, people like that who just aren't capable of being good parents have kids.

I agree that frivolous scheduling of C-sections is wrong. But, my son's C-section would have been scheduled, since he was frank breech and couldn't be turned. He decided to come before we could schedule, but still. So, not all scheduling is for vain or selfish reasons.
The scar? Depending on how the twins were presenting, she would have had a horizontal or a vertical. My horizontal scar is covered by the waistband of my bikini underwear. A vertical one would be more difficult to cover, but would end up only stretching from belly button to pubic bone.
Given that the surviving infant tested positive for cocaine and alcohol, I'm guessing this chick wasn't thinking much of anything, throughout the pregnancy.

What's worse?

she'd already HAD two Caesarians.

I think the charge of murder is crap, myself. Criminal negligence, yes, that's a definite possibility. But murder? Come ON.

But, in general, I have no sympathies for her whatsoever, given Fact #1 at the top, there.
