What meep said - Westchester is comparable to the Bay Area and most of Puget Sound, and property taxes are... insane. I can't see us ever buying in this county, because neither [livejournal.com profile] ginkgo nor I want to spent the equivalent of the price of a new car every year on a taxes for a crackerbox house on a postage stamp of land. Very happy to rent for now.

So no, I don't worry about property prices in Westchester because I'm not that desperate to live 20min closer to NYC. :D

IIRC, our property/school taxes would barely buy us a bare bonesToyota Yari.

While Westchester is pricey, we're fortunate that we don't have a crackerbox house nor a postage stamp yard. In fact there are some nice places up for sale here at the moment. (If that link doesn't work then go to realtor.com and type in 10519 for the zip or 10560.) The listing at #10 Juengstville is down the street from us is really nice and was the one we had our eye on to buy but we were offered our current place before we moved on it. Remember, there are more horses in our town (Pop. 5000) than people nor will you be any closer to NYC. :)
