Home again

Well, Xmas was... eh?
High points:
- A sub-10 hr and sub-*9* hour drive to/from NC. Not shabby.
- A sleep-deprivation-tinged dinner with
icebluenothing,
retcon, and
windbourne on first arriving in Seattle. Thanks guys! :D
- Xmas Eve with the family was... actually not bad. No blood was shed, at least.
- SNOW! Holy crap, it was gorgeous - it snowed most of the time in Wenatchee, and the mountains were just stunning.
- Seeing
ginkgo again after the trip to Seattle.
- Sleep-deprivation and NyQuil fog breakfast at Elmo's with
herithoth and
bosphot.
- The Tween Party, now with severe sleep-deprivation.
- Getting home last night.
- A *real shower* after NC-drought- and boat-living-inspired crappy ones.
Low points:
- Grandma is not well. Neither is my aunt. I suspect that neither will last the year, after moving to the nursing home this month.
- Getting *fucking sick* as soon as a I got to Wenatchee... and since grandma and my aunt have suppressed immune systems, I was left with a couple of short visits, where I had to sit across the room from them... which kind of defeated the entire purpose in going. Spent Christmas Day and the following one mostly in bed, or a NyQuil fog. Fever broke just in time for me to fly back.
- Not getting to hang with
morgyne. Sorry about that, but I was delirious, feverish, and not able to be social. :\
- Transcontinental flights with all that that entails.
- I made the connection out to WA at literally the last second - the jetway employee was holding open the door while the flight attendant was trying to close it. <5min sprint from gate A25 to gate B19 in Cincinnati. The hacking cough I was left with is, I'm pretty sure, what gave the nasty cold a foothold.
- On the return overnight flight, not even a double dose of NyQuil could get me to sleep with the three month old screaming in the seat next to me. I actually felt really badly for the father - he couldn't have been more than 22, and was trying *so hard* to be gentle and patient with his daughter. Luckily, even though the drugs weren't letting me sleep, I was tripping so well I *didn't care*.
- Getting sick again in NC after the Tween party. Rest would have been a good idea somewhere in there, I guess.
- Still shaking off the head cold.
Overall, definitely one of the least relaxing vacations I've ever had. Good to be back.

Date: 2008-01-02 04:06 pm (UTC)Sickness hit many of us this year, and I'm usually pretty able to repel viral boarders, but not this time. Still throwing off the cough/congestion.
Hope you get some sleep eventually!

Date: 2008-01-02 04:27 pm (UTC)Now, apparently, only the holidays inflict as much stress on me as my job used to. :/ One of these years, I'm going to Hawaii for the two weeks covering Christmas and the new year. Maybe I will even tell people that I won't be attending their holiday "celebrations".
