Mom's computer has suffered a hard drive failure. She took it to the Genius Bar, and they kinda-sorta backed it up. I've spent time the last few days trying to walk my technically-somewhat-literate brother through comparing the drives with rsync. Whee.

Tonight he said that Mom is breathing down his neck because she needs access to her mail.

"Mom, we have webmail. Just use a browser."

"I don't have a *computer*."

"Go to the library and use theirs."

"I can't do that! I don't know how to run a PC!"

"Double-click on the IE icon on the Desktop, that's it. You're on the web."

"But... I won't know what to do!"

She *has* gotten onto webmail from her Mac's browser in the past - the idea that it's going to be almost *exactly the same* is so alien to her, that it is her justification, in our minds, for not using the library's computers. He is, understandably, very frustrated with her for being obstinate.

Leah's solution? "Tell her that millions of homeless people get on the web every day using library computers, she should be able to figure it out."

Those of you who have ever met my Mom know why I'm laughing so hard my sides hurt.

Oh.

LOL.

And *duh*! Seeing your comment reminded me that she could have driven (or walked) the half mile from her boat to an Apple Store to use a feakingmachine there. :P
