Tonight some Raleigh folks were in NYC. We went and said hi, watched their wares, and a good time was had by all.

Then we dropped by a couple of coworkers' new place in Da City. They moved in together, they're getting married, and they have an apartment in Midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks from Grand Central. Cool, huh?

Yeeeeeeeeah. They have less than 500 sq ft. I would go insane.

*shudder* I lived in 300 sq. ft. once, but it was by myself and only for about six months (and I didn't have nearly as many books then).

Undoubtedly.

The thing is, they're paying significantly more for that, than we are for our 1600sq ft. Sure, we have a 45-60min train ride into NYC, but... oy.

Gah. Must be why there's so much to do in NYC at all hours: no one can stand to stay in, so they must go out.

Yeah, that's been my Big Revelation regarding living in NYC... no one has a home theatre, because you're surrounded by theatres in the city. No one has a gourmet kitchen, because you're surrounded by good restaurants. No one has a library of note, because you're surrounded by libraries. No one has a yard, because there are parks everywhere. It's truly communal living, but without the social interactions. Your apt is a place to keep your clothes, sleep a little, and make coffee. It's a place to rest between outings, and that's pretty much it.

Kinda reminds of me of a big ball of grubs, to be honest... :P
