Work finally got me a MacBook Pro, although as a loaner while my machine is undergoing a repair.

Ho. Lee. Snickerdoodles.

A 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo + 4GB = freaking fast.

Zippy lil' sportscar of a machine, isn't it? I don't use mine for anything near full capacity, but when I use a fast connection at a cafe I fall in love all over again.

Yeah - I think the 4GB of RAM is really what has this thing *flying*. Three web browsers open, plus Lotus Notes, plus a gazillion little apps, and... snappy, snappy, snappy.

I wonder if it will make Eclipse usable? :D

Heh. Yup, just checked - I haven't even filled 2.5GB of the RAM - it's still running pure physical (modulo mapped files...). Dang. This is sweet. :D

I'm learning it, and I really need to go to a Mac store, settle into some classes and get some more sanctioned tricks to using it. :)

Also, I wanna find games. Lots and lots of games. I shouldn't, but ... eeeeeeeeee!

Mostly, I want to figure out image editing. As slow as it was, I had a pretty sweet set-up on my Windows clunker. I may have to plug a seperate mouse into my laptop for image editing, but I want to figure out how to make it work there -- the right software, etc.

But yes: I love it. I love taking it with me, I love how rarely I have to fix it. It's great. And yes, it took me long enough. Thanks for continuing to push. :)

'Tis a different beast. There are a slew of inexpensive (or free) image editing apps coming out for 10.5 - Apple added new APIs for it, and apparently it's started this little developer revolution to see who can come out with the simplest, smallest, image editing app that still incorporates most of Photoshop's abilities. Nothing unveiled publicly yet, but the teases I've seen have been *impressive*.

If you want better control than a trackpad, I'd suggest a little Wacom tablet. $80 or so, and very nice. Thin enough to slip into a laptop case.

I wasn't expecting this big a jump, since I have a 2GHz MacBook, but... wow. It's gotta be the RAM (and the dedicated video card, and the *really nice* screen, and, and, and...)

I've been puzzling over whether a MBP was really worth the money, given how nice the MB is now. It is. I'm sold.
