I am wearing Levi 501 buttonfly jeans again.

Screw that baggy crap, it's back to the basics for me.

Yeah, I've been wearing jeans (or shorts) to work pretty much whenever I feel like, but for most of grad school, (I hate to admit this) my mom was buying me jeans every Xmas. Which was great. Except that (and this will be *no surprise* to anyone who's ever met, heard stories about, or generally had any knowledge whatsoever about my mom) she continually bought jeans that she thought, in some wacko imaginary world in her head, looked good on me. She'd ask how I liked them, I'd be honest, she's get offended, and then next year buy *exactly the same ones*. It was like she was trying to wear me down and convince me that they actually fit. :P (They fit somewhere between overalls and hiphop pants. Basically, 'baggy == trendy' therefore that was all she needed to know, right?)

ANYwho... I went through my clothes this past week, and realized that I had like 8 pairs of jeans. Two fit. Sort of. Jeans shopping commenced, and instead of the $80-90 a pair ill-fitting crap I had, I now have $35 jeans that fit great, look great, and dammit, I have buttons on my fly again.

Hoofuckingrah.

Dude, that's...moms for you.

My folks have never been much for clothes at Christmas. They both grew up without a lot of money, so (I am speculating here, I don't talk much with my folks about their formative years) I kind of think they (Dad especially) consider clothes a cop-out present: "Here is something I am obliged to provide for you anyway, let's kill two birds with one stone and save some money on actual presents."

Not saying in any way that that's what your mom's thinking, just that that's how Dad probably interpreted gifts of clothes from his parents, and why I rarely got the same.

I'm also not saying that I don't sometimes get "real" presents from them, to which I would *prefer* a pair of badly-fitting jeans that I will never wear...:)
