Old foreign people are so cute...
Jul. 15th, 2007 03:55 pmCombine a certain innocence that comes with age for some people, and mild manglings of English from a non-native-speaker, and you get something like the following...
A few months ago, we had two visiting researchers, a couple, from France. They're both in their late 50s or early 60s, I'd say, and on their last day, we had a going-away party for them, complete with a BAC*. Said BAC had the same style of decorations that I've seen on every other cake at work functions: printed. It looks like they feed a sheet of rice paper or something into a color printer, and then slap it on the cake, and VOILA! A cake that is *just as beautiful* as a PowerPoint presentation. SRSLY.**
Anyway, this cake had their photos on it. Nobody had cut into or eaten their photos (which I find to be more than mildly amusing), and the wife of the two offered her husband his own photo. He deferred, smiling, and said "No, my dear, only you can eat out me."
I am so very proud of myself for not horking coffee out my nose at that moment.
(*Big-Assed Cake)
(** I'm not kidding - the last function replicated the last slide of the guest of honor's farewall talk on his cake. They even did the correct borders in icing.)
