Overheard just now in a coffee shop...

Two 30s-40s aged women discussing watching DVDs...

"You can listen to a different language sometimes, but I don't know how it translates it... it's so weird."

"But how does it *know*?"

"I don't know. Oh, and then its' *really annoying* when it gets stuck on something like French because that's what the last person who rented it put it on. I hate that."

...

Peoples is ignurnt.

It's gone downhill - now one is almost *yelling* about how mad she is at her husband because he expects her to leave the dogs home alone from time to time, and how inhumane that is.

Welcome to Westchester County.

Speaking of which, did you catch the 18 or so year-old girl with the fresh nose job? Sigh.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhhh, here I was thinking it was broken, but you're right, there was almost zero bruising to the sides and around the eyes, indicating a controlled trauma.

[identity profile] ginkgo.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And it's the beginning of graduation season. :D

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It just got better yet... apparently she kicked her husband out of the house to a Marriott, because he wouldn't walk the dogs (who are, by all accounts, her babies) *every* morning, as opposed to them sharing the duties. Her reasoning? "I have to put on my makeup before leaving the house! What does he have to do, throw on shoes?"

[identity profile] georgmi.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say he's well shut of her. And it's particularly amusing that now she's going to have to walk the fucking dogs *every* morning, as opposed to them sharing the duties.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not the brightest bulb in the bunch, but that was pretty obvious as soon as she opened her VERY LOUD MOUTH.

If I were him, I'd just stay at the hotel, while I got the divorce papers together.

Then again, where we are, it's probably economically better for him to just buy lots of liquor, hookers, and maybe a therapist.

That's why I don't live in Bellevue, or Mountlake, or (gods help me) on Mercer Island, but someplace where most folks have to work for a living. They may not understand *me*, but at least they don't think the world revolves around them. And who's going to understand me *anywhere* I go? :)

Not that there aren't drawbacks, as M. just pointed out over my shoulder--she and the boy were on the bus this side one day, having to listen to a couple of guys discuss the successful weight loss of one's wife. Seems she'd lost two hundred pounds. "Wow," said the husband's friend. "That's a whole 'nother woman."

Obviously, stupidity is endemic.

Hahahahahahahahaha!

"I'm not unhappy. I mean, I'm happy, but that's because of his business. And he's drinking less."

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess whoring yourself out pays well... :D

[identity profile] georgmi.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
*checks stock accounts*

Yup, sure does. :)

*checks bank account*

If you do it right, oh boy does it. :D

[identity profile] georgmi.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're living off your wife's money too? Small world. :)

(M. started at Amazon.com about six months before they went public. I am a lucky lucky man. And she can cook, too.)

[identity profile] franktheavenger.livejournal.com 2007-06-04 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, don't I wish. I just whored myself out to the right company. :)

[identity profile] kaneda-khan.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
As [livejournal.com profile] tiktok(?) once put it, if you're ready to sell your soul, do it at Microsoft, because they'll gladly take the whole thing.

I do wish I'd believed in Amazon and gotten in at the right time, though. I already had a decade of dev experience, but [livejournal.com profile] byrdie did tier one email/phone support and earned options worth more than my salary one year.

[identity profile] georgmi.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been a good (for some value of "good") ten years since the options at Microsoft were worth your soul. My grants from '95, '96, and '97 did very nicely for me, but the later grants were still underwater, or very nearly, when I walked away in '03.

M. tells of a time she was on the bus, crossing Lake Washington on a moderately windy day, when one passenger asked another why the water on one side of the bridge was choppy, and the water on the other side of the bridge was calm.

"The choppy side is the salt water," was the answer.

Particularly amusing since the wind is predominantly out of the south 'round there, and so the "salt water" side was undoubtedly not on the side of the lake closest to the Sound.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*LOL* Oh that's good. Stupid, but good.

[identity profile] badger.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I'm having flashbacks to the entitlement matron at the _Into Great Silence_ film I saw last week.

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the land of entitlement matrons. And patrons. And chilluns.

Gag.

[identity profile] franktheavenger.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could have been there, I imagine the look on her face at seeing me laugh at her would have been priceless. Remember, that's all stupid people are good for: entertainment. :D

[identity profile] kickaha.livejournal.com 2007-06-03 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
And biomass fuel...

[identity profile] kaneda-khan.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The fools. Everyone knows a DVD only stays stuck on a particular language if you don't rewind it.
