Oh. Dear. Ghods. Please tell me we didn't spawn an entirely new subset of cross-genre fanfic....

Only if we're lucky.

"Who. Doctor Who."

Well, I just did a quick check - reached out to http://www.fanfiction.net/ and searched for "Doctor Who" keyword in category "James Bond", then vice versa, and got no results other than various ff author's pen names. So for the moment, I think we're safe.

Until it spreads.

Of course, in this alternate universe James Bond is the main character of a phenomenally long-running television show. Every time the lead actor quits, they write in a "his cover's blown, time for plastic surgery again!" subplot to cover the changeover.

Indeed. I think the MacNee years were the most fun overall, and Moore did alright, but McGoohan really stretched the character, almost to the breaking point.

Did you ever see the pilot ep for season 7 introducing Peter O'Toole as Bond? Chewing the scenery even then, he was entirely unfit - it was aired only that once, then officially suppressed, like the Star Wars Christmas Special.

Well, Lucas later re-released the Star Wars Christmas special, digitally replacing Bea Artuhr and Art Carney with Meryl Streep and Ernest Borgnine. Everyone thought it was a great idea.

I remember getting the special Star Wars edition Bell Jet Ranger at Christmas. That was pretty cool.

My god, it's full of fic.

I'm reading off that line of titles and my brain is just REELING with the possibilities. And little bits of my mind are spinning out the plotlines adapting them on the fly.

Holy cow. That's really, really damn funny. Because I can see most of them working...

And that's even before we get to the parodies, like the Tarantino-directed _TARDIS Royale With Cheese_.

Yeah, _The Man With the Sonic Screwdriver_ led to the idea that the Dr. has to face his evil twin, the Doctor. (Flip the naming that was used in the novels for the same differentiation.)

Of course, the evil one prefers to go by his other name...

Scarfamanga.

Oh maaaaaaan... [livejournal.com profile] badger and I scoured the web last night looking for cross overs, and found *none*. Damn, here I thought we had something unique.

Given the entire discussion was spawned by the mp3, we weren't the first in the associational chain even then. But I'd say we put some development into the idea.

"Do you expect me to talk?"

"No, Dr. Who! Daleks expect you to EX-TER-MIN-ATE"
