Date: 2006-05-25 08:48 pm (UTC)Hopped out of the kayak in a working harbor in the Outer Banks, NC. (Swansboro, I think.) A broken oyster shell in the industrial sludge and muck of the bottom went about 1/2" into the arch of my foot through the side of my sandal. I cleaned it out best I could at the time, but the next morning, my foot was bent over in a claw, and there were ugly red lines radiating out from the wound.
So I broke it open again, kept digging, and found a small piece of shell still in the bottom of the wound, with a dollop of that yummy stinky sludge. Cleaned it out, soaked in epsom salts for an hour or so to make it more limber, straightened out the foot, and wore a boot to keep it straight for the day. By that night, all better except for the cut.
Go go gadget immune system!
