Here I was all excited because UNC has been advertising an electronic dissertation submission trial run all semester. I go to the website tonight, sign up, and *AS I'M FILLING IN MY INFO*, a banner appears across the top in red: "This submission site is in test mode. No submissions or credit card orders will be processed. Please contact your administrator." After a hearty WTF? I head over to the UNC Graduate School site - yup, no electronic submissions allowed at this point, all paper submissions only. Apparently new as of this evening. *sigh*

Poop. Here I was going to save myself the hassle and cost of printing out two copies at 400 pages per on 100% cotton bond.

Ah well.

Are you kidding? UNC has had 200+ yrs to perfect the art of red tape. No way in hell they're giving that up easily.

I suspect the university thinks it's not a real Ph.D. if you don't undergo some last-minute torment submitting the dissertation. If you don't understand the relative importance of your original contribution to human knowledge and your margins, you'll leave school with the wrong attitude.
