It's like the 80s all over again
Went roller skating tonight for the first time in, um, a long time... last time was maybe 1985? (Not inline skates - those I've done a lot of, we're talking old school four wheel skates. Take my advice - do NOT try to hockey stop on them. Old habits die hard.) The foot cup in the right skate was, I think a half size too small for the boot, so my heel stuck out over the back, resulting in the edge of the cup pushing into my heel - for two hours. Ow. Never had a blister/bruise there. Odd place for it.
Had a nice fall too - was gliding along, and got the wheels on my two skates locked. Goddamned things are bloody dangerous, I tell you, not nice and safe like razor sharp blades. WHAM I go down like a felled tree. Okay, a rocket propelled felled tree. Do I hit knees first? Oh no. Do I hit on my elbows? Of course not. Maybe I curl up in a ball and scream for momma on the way down, letting my side take it? Nuh-uh.
Flat on my front. Got my hands out just in time to take enough shock to keep my head from hitting, but I hit hands, lower rib cage, and toes, then twisted sideways so my shoulder took the next brunt. My wrists ache a touch, my shoulder is a bit sore, but my ribs hurt like hell. I'm a medical freak, like all the men in my family, I have not only the bottom rib on each side floating, but the second one up too. Right number of ribs, wrong amount of connective tissue. I think they're floating a bit more freely tonight.
Happy birthday, wife o' mine, I'm glad you asked to go skating! :D
