To expound, to wit, to explain...
Had the perfect storm of crap hit today. A postdoc fellowship I wanted to apply for has its due date Mon the 28th according to the invite. Cool. I knew this weeks ago, and set up everything but the reference letters. (You can see where this is going, can't you?) A couple of days ago, it is pointed out to me that the invite has *two* due dates, the 28th, and the 25th. Hmmm. Best to go with the 25th to be sure.
I've been trying to get up with one potential reference letter writer for a week, with no success.
Today I finally ambush him in his office between meetings, and he agrees to write a letter... if I give him the talking points. Eek? Okay, can do. This is at 3. He wants it by 5. Okay, no problem.
Sponsor for fellowship mails and suggests words for research proposal, says he'll review. Cool. He wants it by... 5. Ooookay, can do.
I ask sponsor about reference letter we had discussed earlier, he says "Oh, I don't think I can do that if I'm the internal sponsor." Eek.
Missing one reference letter at 4:30 on the Thu before Easter Break starts... tomorrow.
Mail a couple of committee members with an emergency grovel and plea.
Write talking points.
5:15, get a completed letter back from one of the emergency contacts, I swear he has boilerplate for just these circumstances.
Write research proposal for third time in last hour.
Send off proposal, awaiting feedback, editing thesis synopsis as per earlier comments.
*twitch*
