Cash's version and video of Hurt came out just before my grandfather died... for some reason it became sort of the anthem of life regrets for me. He and I talked a lot in his last year about such things, and I got the feeling it was the first time he'd ever talked about them. There was a lot of pain in his life that he just kept hidden until then.
