That the new Star Trek movie has rebooted all of the entire Star Trek universe, wiping out all pre-existing movies, television shows, books, comics, and other media...

...except _Enterprise_.

In fact, _Enterprise_, along with the new movie, *IS* the canon.

Organian Treaty? Didn't happen. Decon gel? Canon.
Wolf 359? Doesn't exist. Space beagle? Canon.
Dominion War? You're dreaming. Temporal cold war? CANON!

Lens flares and soft rock, baby!

"It's been a looooooong roooooooooad...."

Nice theory.

But somehow, I doubt J.J. Abrahms is going to be worrying about Enterprise as canon for anything.

Abrams.

And no, I don't think he's going to be worried about it, I'm just terribly amused that, in canon, the only existing media pre-Abrams is _Enterprise_, the series that was duly hated by most fans.

"It's all new! It's all fresh! It's all... oh shit. Damn. Um... *didn't happen*! Nothing to see here!"

Fucking hilarious, in my opinion. I can't wait for the first ret-retcon that attempts to link this reboot to the 29thc. Starfleet time fleet/Temporal Cold War to wipe *that* out and reset that bit as well. Of all the pieces to leave in the canon bin for the fans, it's the piece least accepted.

After decades of whinging about what is canon, and what is not, and *this* happens? Delicious irony.

Scraped the canon clean, if you ask me.

(even though I was nominally obligated to post about the sneak preview I saw last Wednesday, I was a mite too busy to actually get around to it)

Yeah, when the scriptwriters drop such a canon-shattering (*snrk*) event in there, there's not much to be done with everything else. Heck, they even comment on that at two points in the movie.

Personally, I'd be more interested to see this movie used as a new jumping-off point, without all that baggage that's accreted through TNG on. Hell, from TOS onward.

I mean, hell, they rewrote Captain Pike's injury story for crying out loud. They undid the pilot of TOS.

*grin* Ain't it great? :)

I'm really looking forward to what they come up with next. Having the bits and pieces of all the post-Enterprise Star Trek universe to play with, but without them being set in concrete? My oh my, what a toy bin. There are a tremendous number of great ideas in amongst the chaff, and letting those be taken out, turned over and reworked will be nice to see. (Heck, even _ENT_ managed to do some nice bits, such as retconning the Orion 'slave girls' as the heads of a pheromone-based matriarchy, such that the entire external face of the culture is a sham to infiltrate patriarchal hierarchies without undue attention... IMO, that was brilliant.)

But we'll always have decon gel. :D

Er...so you missed the specific mention of Enterprise? How Scotty tested his transporter tech?

Admiral Archer's prize beagle? :D

Haven't seen the movie yet. ;) (S'ok, I'm up to my eyeballs in spoilers, so seeing it this week will be less surprise and more confirmation...)

It just struck me that of all the pieces to be left intact... it had to be _Enterprise_. Snerk. :D

I *totally* missed that.

I caught most of the homage to the other movies, but I totally missed that one. <lmao>

But I thought that Kirk eating the apple was a nice touch.

Doh! I thought you would have seen it by now, sorry.

I'll try to keep secrets to myself, like how Spock is made of chocolate. :x
