Maybe it's that people want control in areas that affect them most directly? I'm mostly a randomist all the way 'round, though, so I don't have a good perspective. (Atheist, OSS, mostly free markets - want the gov't to make sure there are no barriers to collective actions, and perhaps to provide some minor cushioning in cases of major upheaval - ie, social security as insurance, not entitlement)
