Photo trick--expose for the lights (spot meter them at +1.5 or +2 if they're big enough, or adjust your exposure until they approach but don't push off the top end of your histogram), see how the rest turns out. You'll end up with silhouettes, but it can still make for a graphically interesting shot, and shortens your shutter speed significantly.
