Belay that!

Went climbing again tonight... quite the bit o' fun.

Although I *did* learn a new definition for 'embarassment'... was heading up the easiest route on the face (5.5), hit a point where I had obviously skipped a crucial hold and the next one was a real stretch with my left leg. So I went for it. Hiked my foot up to my waist, and out, caught the lip, worked the ball over and on, and pushed like mad to reach up with my right hand for the next grip.

I immediately went kicking off into space. My belay guide was trying to give me pointers on where to relatch, while I'm saying "Down!" "Down?" "DOWN!" "Okay, put both your legs out straight, and... *both* your legs... no *BOTH*..." "Will you just let me the f*ck down?!?"

I hit the ground, start hopping on my right leg, and he says "What in the world?"

"I HAVE AN ASS CRAMP!"

"Dude, dude, dude... next time, grab your *calf* or something, would ya?"

I turn around, and there are half a dozen folks laughing their butts off at me.

Other than *that* little incident, the session was great. I can already feel a difference in my biceps, lats, and calves. A few months of this, maybe some weights, and I'll look like I belong there. There wasn't an unattractive climber there tonight. Men, women, all were toned, and athletic. Other than that, all body styles were accounted for... but the *motion*...

These guys would be slightly built, nicely toned, nothing spectacular. Then they'd reach up, grab a new hold, and *pull*... and you could see every muscle fiber and sinew from their fingertips to their spine. It was amazing.

Ass cramp. hehehehehe.

And I know what you mean about how climbers move. I miss being able to pull my foot up as high as it can go, range-o-motion wise, and stand from that position...the combined strenght and flexability was amazing.

Sigh. Miss climbing.

Heh, yeah.

I'm still learning to trust the rope... or even remember that it is *there*. Makes the 'let go' part a little harder... ;)

Yeah, but AN's voice should help. Let go and let Dude. He nearly channels Scoop. :)

How much more stable are you there than on the scree field we were on in Yellowstone? That shook you not at all.

Well yeah, the scree field was only about what, 60-70deg incline?

These are 90+. :)

And, a scree field is *ALL* handholds. These have blank flat concrete in between them. I'll run up a scree slope all day long without fear of falling. If it starts to slide, just ride it out and make sure you're on the top of the wave. ;)

This is just a *wee* bit different.

Probably 70, but that was still the most mobile field I've ever been on. :)

So have I.

*Very* glad to be getting back into it like this.

Unfortunately, I can't take guests. :/

Are you kidding? I'm sure that was the *steepest* thing you'd ever been on... :D

*duck*

Okay, so it was the highest altitude, at the very least... :)

On scree slopes, I'm a mountain goat.
