Must... control... Fist of Death...
Mar. 23rd, 2006 12:49 pmA couple of weeks ago,
ginkgo and I ordered Real Adult Furniture. Solid wood dresser, armoire, storage benches... great stuff. (homedecorator.com, btw) Imagine IKEA-style flatpack, but solid wood, not composite, and not much more than IKEA. Very happy with it so far.
Well, the pieces that have gotten here.
See, the armoire was shipping in two boxes (one 109.5#, the other 85#). One arrived damaged... badly - a 3" hole was punched through the box, and several pieces inside. Wood chips were falling out, for cripe's sake.
A quick call to HD, and an exchange is set up. They ship two more boxes, and we ship the two back. Simple enough.
Right. Enter FedEx.
Tue: FedEx arrives to pick up boxes. They only take one. Call HD, arrange for second pick up.
Wed: FedEx delivers *one* of the two new boxes. Other one is in transit. Somewhere. I get home very late, and decide that galumphing an 85# huge box up the wooden stairs over my neighbors' heads would be bad, so I leave it in the entry way, next to the damaged box for pick up.
Thu: FedEx picks up box. Guess which one. Yup, the one that they just delivered yesterday, and left the one they're supposed to get. Totally by accident, I almost managed to fix it. I went downstairs this morning to put a tag on the box to be picked up "Take this one", and see only one box left. The wrong one. I miss the driver by literally seconds - I chase him down the driveway to the street, where I get his attention and he stops the truck. "YOU HAVE THE WRONG BOX!" He smiles, waves, and drives the fuck away. That was at 10am. It's now 1, and after four calls to FedEx, all of which have resulted in "We're trying to get ahold of the driver, but he's not checking his voice mail apparently," I'm sitting here waiting for the driver to show back up so I can get to work. Oh, and the other box? On a lark I checked with tracking. "Could not reach occupant" WTF? I've been here all day, and the signature requirement has already been waived. So I call. Turns out that no, actually, when they went to load it on the truck this morning, they didn't have room, so it's scheduled for tomorrow. The error msg is apparently their catch-all for "We screwed up, but it's easier to blame it on the occupant."
What do you want to bet, that he doesn't get back here today, and they schedule a pickup for tomorrow... the same day that the *other* box is finally supposed to arrive? Ah, another opportunity for hilarity.
Bleah.
