Well,
ginkgo and I went into The City today.
My IBM badge gets us into several major museums for free, so today we hit the Edvard Munch exhibit at MOMA. (Well, and the other five floors too...) It's a 45 minute ride from the Ossining rail station to Grand Central, which isn't too bad really. It's a nice ride down the river, a trip that starts out in small towns, then *suddenly* you're in the middle of large brick communities and concrete canyons. Very cool.
A walk up from Grand Central to MOMA, several hours in there, and then a walk up to Central Park, then back down Broadway to 38th, around to Park, and up to Grand Central again. 10 hrs later, we're back home.
A day trip to MOMA. Hunh. I could get used to this.
Edit:
I realized I left out the actual fun bits...
ginkgo was a great tour guide - we had a lot of fun just wandering.
On the train ride in, a young gentleman changed into his gi for kung fu. He ducked into the restroom to change his pants, but the rest was public. I was highly amused.
I forgot to mention Times Square - it took us about twenty minutes to cross it - the people were THICK. In the HEAD... Damn... can't people figure out to move *out of the walkway* before stopping? Jeez. It's not a stopway, it's a walkway, so frickin' walk already. :P But that was really cool. First time there for me. Post-cleanup, so I've never gotten to see the old traditional Times Sq... but there *was* a 40' tall Devil in Miss Jones sequel billboard over the Lace strip club. I guess that's a nod.
MOMA was... wonderful. While I really got a kick out of seeing the Klimt, Klee, Pollack, Matisse, van Gogh and of course Munch, I think I liked the sculpture and industrial design the best - when art combines with function to make something minimistically elegant... to me that's truly beautiful.
Central Park was fantastic - it was obvious this was one of the first few warm days of the year. A lot of folks out enjoying the sun, but the skating rink was still packed. Very neat.
Had a street vendor hot dog (okay, 2), so next time it'll be a choice between falafel, pizza, and shwarma. Darn.
