That which coils within...
Jun. 25th, 2004 03:22 pmDropped the pain pump this morning, yanking out all the slack in the tube that had been under the dressing, but not actually yanking out the catheter... which surprised me. It didn't even hurt, which was odd.
Went to PT, which did hurt, but I expected that, then, again, my shirt was soaked with fluids. Went back to the nurse at Sports Medicine to have it looked at, and we decided to just pull the catheter since it only has about 8ml of fluid left, and I figured I'd pull it with her there, rather than at home since I had no idea what to expect.
Well, I found out why it didn't come out... ~7" of tubing wrapped in my shoulder, snaking through the joint tissues. Wacky. It just kept coming, and coming, and coming... and I could feel it as it unwound through everything. It never hurt, it just felt strange.
I asked the nurse if I could take the pump home, even though it had biohazard trash attached in the form of the tube. "Why?" "Because I'm a sick monkey who like to take stuff apart and see how it works." For some reason she thought that was hilarious.
So now I have a little puncture hole in the top of my shoulder that's actually the entrance to 7" of tunnel into my shoulder, and it keeps spitting up at me. Cute little bugger. Too bad about the bandages keeping it hidden. (I figure if I aim it just right and twitch my arm hard enough, I could get a few feet of distance out of it... spitting cobra, eat your heart out.)
Ah well, maybe my shirt will dry out now. :)
