Well sure, but this added a level of strategy that none of us had encountered before. While it is usually the case that you want to keep as many people betting as possible (assuming you win), in the end it's usually the case that there's no win/loss benefit to it, simply how much you win. This added a variable in that you may not win *at all* if the number of participants drops too low, or doesn't drop low enough. Your hand may go from a strong contender to completely worthless, or vice versa.
Doing a simple 'num of participants' would be possible, sure, but we liked the added randomness.
