Yay. Argh.

I got my new work laptop.

I've been using it <10min. So far, I've rebooted three times due to updates, patches, upgrades, and generally this thing being a royal pain in the ass about throwing up dialogs, beeps, 'informational balloons' and other useless crap in my face.

"Wireless networks are not available." Um, I just set that up, and you said it was. "Wireless network now available." Finally. "Wireless networks are not available." Go. Away. "Wireless network now available." Listen, I don't care, I'm on cabled Enet. "Wireless networks are not available." I. Don't. Care. See this cable? Don't make me horsewhip you with it. "Wireless network now available." Who's up for a six martini lunch?

And so it goes. Welcome to hell.

Actually, Big Blue was a latecomer to the party, but...

Please tell me how to turn it off. Really. I'm begging here.

S'alright, this is my solution, as when I have the laptop on my lab bench, my reception hinges on whether or not the lab door is open... *sigh*

Right click on the wireless network icon in the system tray (default lower right)
Select 'View Available Networks'
From the left panel menu, select 'Change advanced settings'
There under the 'General' tab, at the bottom, you'll see two check-boxes
I kill the 'Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity' one.

Also, you can go under the 'Wireless Networks' tab
Select the work network, and then 'Properties'
There, under the 'Connection' tab, I turn off 'Connect when this network is within range'.

And that should about do it...

Thanks.

I hate it when my tools get in my face more than they let me work.

Thank you!

Ssssh! Don't tempt him. If we're quiet, we can get out of here without another user experience discussion. :D
