Heh. Yeah, they didn't have a lot of options on the carrier though.
1) They wanted to sell the phone globally -> GSM or 3G. 2) Of those, GSM has much better coverage in the US. -> GSM. 3) Of the GSM carriers, Cingular is pretty much the one with best coverage. :\
The one bright spot in this is a *rumor* that Apple, not Cingular, will be handling the customer support for all customers.
