In 2001, NPR asked Jim's Big Ego, a Boston band, to come up with a 'New New Year's Song' since, apparently, a lot of people loathe Auld Lang Syne. (I love it, personally, I just ignore the overused part.)

What they came up with is New Lang Syne... also known as Thank God, It's Over.

Given the general feelings of folks posting here regarding this past year, I thought I'd share. Great maudlin song for getting trashed to, IMO.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "Thank God it's over", as another year gone means another year closer to all my friends levitating bellisae from beneath, but it's certainly an improvement over endless repetitions of the single vers of _Auld Lang Syne_ that people actually know. :)

Besides, as years go, it was a pretty good one for me.

Despite the flood, I was relatively happy with the year. Even with the flood, I got new carpet out of the whole thing :). And I *like* Auld Lang Syne: it was one of my favorite songs to play on saxophone - just doesn't sound right to me on another instrument. Now that I have a sax again, I have a year to relearn the song, too :).

That said, I do think the Big Ego song is good, too.

Damn, that thing's almost as sappy as the hated song. Although I imagine Auld is easier for drunks to sing. :p
